The pirate character Captain Black Eye mentions that he once dreamed of starring in his own game before a bear stole his glory. This is a development joke referencing the early history of Banjo-Kazooie (1998), which began development as an RPG with a male hero and pirates (including Captain Black Eye) before the many revisions that created the Banjo-Kazooie concept.
