Oliver North is a retired United States Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel who helped with the production of Call of Duty: Black Ops II and played a small role in the campaign. North portrays a fictionalized version of his younger self and accompanies Jason Hudson to Alaska to ask Alex Mason to help rescue Frank Woods.

Ed Harris voiced the character Jason Hudson in the first Black Ops, but Michael Keaton provides Hudson's voice in Black Ops II.

Even though you have to shoot Mason as Woods (believing he is Menendez), there is a way to keep him alive. Instead of shooting him in the head, shoot him in the leg, and he will fall to the ground as if dead either way. He will appear in a scene during the final title sequence. A flashback shows where the bullet hit his leg and explains how he survived the events of that day. He is shown to be very old, like Woods, and meets his son for the first time since leaving to look for Woods, and eventually re-enlists with the CIA (which causes him to be skipped and Woods to shoot him, believing he is Menendez), while his son is still a child.
