Clancy Brown was initially offered the chance to return as the voice of Cortex, but he declined because he felt he had not been paid enough for his work on the previous Crash Bandicoot games. This also gave Vivendi Universal the opportunity to give Cortex a funnier voice, since parents had complained that Clancy Brown's voice made Cortex too scary for their children.

The game was originally planned as something completely different before the concept was scrapped. It was called Crash Bandicoot Evolution. The game was planned for release not only on PS2 and Xbox but also on GameCube, but it was cancelled for several reasons: Crash Twinsanity took too long in the planning stage and there was too little time left to make the game, which nearly caused the game itself to be cancelled, so a GameCube port was not ready by the deadline, it was too expensive for the budget, and the port was left too unfinished by the deadline. However, on June 23, 2011, the "IGN" Review YouTube Channel uploaded the video "Crash Twinsanity GameCube Gameplay", the only evidence and footage of how Crash Twinsanity would have looked on the console (GameCube).
