Quvenzhané Wallis is the first Black woman to play Annie on the big screen. The first Black woman to play the lead role, and the first Black woman to be credited in the role, was Adrienne Warren, who appeared in a local stage production of "Annie" near Norfolk, Virginia, in 1997.
