The film is divided into three chapters, "The Family", "Justice" and "The Sea", and cinematographer Rainer Klausmann, shooting with the ARRI Alexa, created a slightly different look for each. The first chapter was shot mostly outdoors with a handheld ARRI Alexa in 'Super-16' mode to achieve a rougher look. The second chapter, which contains many of the courtroom scenes, used ARRI's new and extremely sharp anamorphic lenses and was filmed in a static style. In the third and final chapter, set in Greece, Klausmann preferred old vintage lenses to achieve a softer look. The brief 'home video' segments shown in each chapter were shot with ordinary smartphones.
