Despite its disappointing box office performance, Dickerson is pleased that the film has retained some of its popularity over the years and noted that test screenings received positive reactions from audiences.
New Line wanted the film to focus more on blood and immediate action to appeal to a specific audience, while Dickerson aimed for a more subtle approach and a compelling ghost story.
Bones was re-cut after its first screening because executives, influenced by films they had just seen such as Little Nicky and Town and Country, preferred a faster pace and were unhappy with the lack of immediate action.
