   On Monday, August 14, 2017, stunt performer Joi Harris died in a motorcycle accident after losing control and crashing into Shaw Tower. Harris, the first Black female professional road racer, was working as a stunt performer for the first time on the film and had joined the production only a week earlier. Harris was not wearing a helmet because the character she was doubling, Domino, does not wear a helmet in the scene, and there had not been time since she joined the film to create a helmet that would fit under Domino's wig. On the day of the fatal crash, she had two full days of stunt rehearsal as well as five more attempts. Veteran stunt performer Melissa R. Stubbs was available and willing to do the stunt, but the inexperienced Harris was preferred because her skin tone resembled Zazie Beetz's. This decision was criticized by many stunt professionals, most of whom noted that Harris's motorcycle racing experience did not qualify her as a skilled stunt performer. Production was halted immediately after the incident but resumed two days later. Along with this news came reports that the film crew was "enduring very long hours" and "exhausted by the schedule," and 20th Century Fox confirmed that some days went beyond the planned 12-13 hours of shooting to over 15 hours. The film's credits also include a dedication to the stunt performer: "In memory of Sequana Harris."

   Amid the controversies surrounding T. J. Miller, and following his behavior in the months before the film's release, Ryan Reynolds announced that Miller would not be invited back for the sequels. Among the incidents were Miller's involvement in sexual misconduct allegations during the Weinstein Effect and alleged bullying behavior on the set of Silicon Valley (2014). Miller was also arrested after calling 911 while on an Amtrak train from Washington, D.C., to New York's Penn Station, claiming a female passenger "has a bomb in her bag." Miller himself later stated that he would not want to appear in any more Deadpool films even if asked and paid double, and said Reynolds was "horrifically mean" to him on the set of Deadpool 2. However, he later said that after Reynolds reached out to him they made amends, and claimed his earlier accusations against Reynolds were "misconstrued."

   On set, Juggernaut was represented by a 6-foot-8-inch (2.03 m) stand-in wearing a helmet extension to match the character's height of 9 feet 6 inches (2.90 m). A full-scale replica of the character's metal helmet was made to interact with the performers on the film set, but the final version was entirely digital along with the rest of the character. Framestore animators found it difficult to move the helmet so that the character could move his head from underneath it, and they studied the movements of bodybuilders for the character. Juggernaut's face was modeled on David Leitch's, and Ryan Reynolds provided facial capture for the character, but this was changed during the animation process. For the final fight between the two characters, two stuntmen matching the height difference between them were filmed in a motion capture scene as a reference; this footage was turned into a previsualization.

   Ryan Reynolds told Vogue that it was hard to transform into Deadpool, whose skin was injured and twisted by the torturous Weapon X program. "They rip up your face as they're coming off," he said of the special-effects makeup used to achieve the shocking look. "So I do basically everything the key artists tell me to do, including using this special moisturizer designed for burns. My product of choice is a $30 balm (a little more intense) from Vitaminerals that contains vitamins C, D, E and A and panthenol to nourish my skin. As for the rest of my skincare routine, it definitely requires less upkeep. "I work in show business, so I should take it to the next level and have a really thorough, refined routine, but other than that I don't. Sometimes on a very cold winter day I steal whatever is in my wife's drawer and slather it on. I may not know exactly what it is, but I'm sure it says moisturizer on it. I don't stockpile products to help fight the aging process either. In terms of aging gracefully, I never complain about a birthday. We all want to be old people at some point, so you can enjoy getting there. I think embracing [aging] is sexy instead of fighting it."

    In an interview at FanExpo, Morena Baccarin explained that such an experience while making the sequel was both challenging and unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. She explained: "The hardest times I've had on set didn't make it into the films, which really sucks because you work really hard. On the second Deadpool, I did this whole underwater scene that never made it into the film, and I still have nightmares about it. It was very traumatic." In the scene, designed to take place in space, Baccarin was seen performing in an apartment entirely submerged in water. "They put the apartment set underwater. I was in a room like this, 20 feet underwater. There was a ceiling above my head, it felt so wrong," she said. Despite the difficult conditions, Baccarin managed it and added: "We did the scene with divers giving us oxygen, and Ryan Reynolds looked so comfortable and completely fine, and I was freaking out the whole time. We finally got through it, and because we constantly had to keep our eyes open, our eyes were damaged from the bacteria in the water, clothing particles and other things, and that never made it into the film." The experience was so intense that Baccarin vowed never to shoot underwater scenes again. She added: "They asked me, 'Are you comfortable?' I said, 'No, but are you still going to make me do this?' They said, 'Yes, pretty much if you're willing to try.' And I said, 'Of course I'll try.'" Even after a week of practice in a tank, she explained that the actual shoot was a completely different beast: "If I'm sitting in a chair with 20-foot weights underwater and I completely freak out and need air, there's a diver who can give me air. But if I can't manage to get the mouthpiece into my mouth and I swallow water, I'm really far from the surface. Everything was really panic-inducing. I did not enjoy it."
