Michelle Rodriguez and Charlize Theron shot their fight scenes without a director.

One indication that Aimes is a double agent working for Dante is that he tells Dom his team is going to Portugal. Dom never told anyone outside his team where they were headed, and Aimes could not have known this because he did not use God's Eye to track the crew after the failed mission in Rome.

The film ends on a cliffhanger, with the second part of the finale expected in 2026. Vin Diesel, however, suggested it could be a trilogy finale with three films instead of two. When the film came out, Vin said it would now be a three-part film, but that the true end of the series would now be Fast 11.
- #007
The film was initially said to be the first part of the series' two-part finale, but it has now been confirmed to be the first of a three-part finale. Vin later said Fast 11 would now be the final part of the series.

The only actors remaining from the saga's first film are Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster. Diesel is also the only one to appear in every film except 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), in which he is only briefly mentioned.

The Fast & Furious timeline is notoriously complicated: the fourth, fifth and sixth installments take place before Han's "death" in the third film, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), released in 2006 (later revealed to be faked); the seventh film folded Han's death into the narrative, and every subsequent film is set after Tokyo Drift. This film, however, at least tries to capture the timeline accurately: the six-year gap between it and the previous installment covers both the pandemic-related production delays and, according to the plot, Dom's son "Little Brian" now being nine years old. In his preamble to Tess, Aimes also notes that the saga began in 2001, when Brian (then an LAPD officer) was tasked with bringing down a street-racing crew; that was the year the series debuted.

The film's first full trailer explains why Dante holds a grudge against Dom. In keeping with Fast & Furious tradition, Dante seeks revenge after Dom and his crew injured and killed members of his family, specifically the villains of Fast Five (2011). This mirrors Deckard Shaw's motivation in Furious 7 (2015), avenging his brother, who was nearly killed by Dom's crew at the end of Fast & Furious 6 (2013). Also in keeping with tradition, the ending of Fast Five (2011) was reworked to include Dante. This had been done twice before with the scene showing Han's presumed death in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006): first in Furious 7 (2015) to show Deckard's first act of revenge, and again in F9: The Fast Saga (2021) to show that Mr. Nobody faked Han's death.

The characters shown at the Toretto family barbecue in the trailer are Dom, Letty, Mia, Tej, Roman, Han, Ramsey, "little" Brian and Rita Moreno's matriarch, later revealed to be Dom and Mia's abuela (grandmother). There is an obvious empty space beside Mia's place at the table, possibly arranged that way to avoid spoiling a surprise reveal, but in the finished film no one sits in the chair. That chair is likely meant for Brian and kept empty in memory of the late Paul Walker.
- #014
This marks Jason Statham's return as Deckard Shaw, who had previously appeared in an uncredited cameo in the post-credits scene of F9: The Fast Saga (2021); that scene now appears as part of a longer sequence in Fast X.

In an interview with Esquire Middle East, director Louis Leterrier shared more about the film, including how his approach differed from Lin's on F9. "What I wanted to do with this one, because it's my style, was to ground it more in reality. No pun intended, I wanted to bring it back down to Earth. With number nine they went to space, and I was like, 'OK, they went to space, there's no way I can top that.' But what I can do is things we haven't done practically before, like throwing a one-ton bomb — an actual one-ton metal ball — through the streets of Rome and hoping not to destroy the Colosseum."

According to the film's official studio synopsis, Kurt Russell's character Mr. Nobody has been replaced by Alan Ritchson's character Aimes, who is now Little Nobody's boss and not a fan of Dom and his crew. The opening of F9: The Fast Saga (2021) showed that Jakob arranged Mr. Nobody's plane crash in a Central American jungle and that Mr. Nobody sent an SOS message to Dom's crew shortly before the crash, but when Dom and the crew arrived he was gone and his whereabouts are unknown. Brie Larson's character Tess is described as a "rogue operative" who is also part of Mr. Nobody's anonymous "Agency."

In an interview with Esquire Middle East, director Louis Leterrier continued to talk about the practical set effects and physical stunts used in the film: "Obviously we had visual effect help, but we had to keep everything practical. The visual effects were mainly for safety and scope, but we needed a foundation to stay in our reality. Without that, it would have been too much. I wanted it to feel like the films that feel solid, like Fast 1, Fast 3 and Fast 5. That was my thinking. The style, and everyone accepted it, so everyone was really in on it. Everyone was excited to rediscover the physical stunts."

The film's rising budget stemmed from tax incentives, which can result from numerous factors such as the rising salaries of franchise star Vin Diesel and the rest of the series' cast. The overall increases in production costs stem from global inflation and mainly the pandemic testing requirements mandated by COVID-19 safety protocols.

Portugal has deep roots in Fast X, and much of the film's finale does not take place in Portugal. However, both Daniela Melchior (Isabel) and Joaquim de Almeida (Hernan Reyes) are Portuguese-born natives; Joaquim was born in the capital, Lisbon, while Daniela was born across the river in Almada, on the outskirts of Lisbon. Both play Brazilian-born characters in the Fast Saga. Also, Jason Mamoa (Dante Reyes) plays the son of Portuguese-born Joaquim De Almeida in the film. Another interesting fact: The famous dam scene actually takes place at the Aldeadávila Dam, which sits on both sides of the Portugal-Spain border.

The Rio car has a roll cage and no visible gauges, the hero car is seen while Dom drives, and there may be another car used as a backup.

When Han's dating profile is shown, his age is listed as 39. However, actor Sung Kang would be 51, since he was born in 1972. The writers used the film Better Luck Next Time, which is considered Han's backstory even though it is not officially part of the Fast series. In that film Han is a high school senior, so his age is probably 18. Better Luck Next Time premiered in 2002. Fast X premiered in 2023, so: 2023-2002=21, 21 years between the films… 21+18=39.
