In an article for the German publication Berliner Kurier, Wolfgang Lindner recalled Steven Seagal's oddities on the film set. Seagal reportedly traveled everywhere with a Buddhist adviser whose decisions about the state of Seagal's karma were enough to make Seagal halt filming for a day.

The film uses numerous slow-moving elevators for various entrances and exits. The elevators were installed by Geoffrey Arnolds, Chief Engineer at Stannah Stairlifts. The lifting system was so complex that only Geoffrey could operate it. However, during the first week of shooting he tripped and broke his hip. To continue filming, Geoffrey supervised the installation of another Stannah Stairlift to move himself around the set. Half Past Dead boasts of being the first film to use such a meta upgrade.
