Nandu's (Aftab Shivdasani's character) father is named Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, a reference to another popular 2000 Priyadarshan comedy, Herapheri. This is shown in the advertisement Popat Seth reads in the newspaper about Chandu's disappearance.

Although Aftab's character and Paresh Rawal's character are both leads (as are Rimi Sen and Akshaye Khanna), they never share the screen with each other throughout the film.

The song "Chain Aap Ko Mila" had previously been recorded in 1993 for the film Sanam O Sanam. The film starred Vinod Khanna, Reena Roy, Ronit Roy, Javed Jaffery and Indrani Banerjee. The music was by Nadeem Shravan. The film was produced by Barkha Roy (Reena Roy's sister). When the film was shelved, Nadeem Shravan took the song and included it in the soundtrack of Footpath (2003). They later re-recorded it with singer Shaan for Hungama.

Aftab signed on for a Venus Productions film starring Chandrachur Singh and Preeti Jhangiani. It was to be directed by Sameer Malkan. The film was ultimately shelved. There is speculation that this film actually became the 2003 release "Hungama", with Akshaye replacing Chandrachur, Rimi replacing Preeti Jhangiani and Priyadarshan replacing Sameer Malkan.

Keeping in mind the cult status the film has gained over the years, fans have often (even humorously) credited the unseen character of Anandi Lal Katpitiya (the millionaire Amit Divatia refers to when telling Paresh Rawal that his children abandoned him by settling abroad) as the film's unifying factor in terms of its lead cast.

In an interview with Bipasha Basu on the sets of Ajnabee (most likely around mid-2001), Bipasha was asked about her upcoming projects and mentioned an untitled film directed by Priyadarshan and starring Aftab Shivdasani and Jimmy Shergill. That film may possibly have been Hungama, which was released two years later.
