   The film's preparation process took about 3 years, and Özpetek, who wrote the screenplay in Italian, received support from Yıldırım Türker during the stage of rendering it into Turkish. For the role of Orhan Şahin, first a British and then an American actor were approached; both actors withdrew from the project, citing the climate of terrorism in Turkey. Following these developments, it was decided that the cast would be made up entirely of Turkish actors.
