    Legendary British comedians Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise began making colour television programmes in 1969 under a deal with the BBC. They very much wanted Judy Garland to appear as a guest on one of their programmes. Unfortunately, she died before negotiations could begin. Coincidentally, Bernard Delfont was the uncle of Michael Grade, who was then Morecambe and Wise's manager. Grade was instrumental in persuading Morecambe and Wise to sign with the BBC only if it agreed to broadcast their shows in colour.
