Grossing $209 million in its opening weekend, Jurassic World surpassed Marvel's The Avengers (2012) ($207 million) to become the biggest domestic opening of all time (not adjusted for inflation). With a $316 million international opening, it beat Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011), which opened to $315 million in 2011, for the biggest opening in box office history. Its $524 million global opening was the biggest global opening of all time. This exceeded even the highest estimates and best expectations of the studio, analysts and critics. The film also beat The Avengers (2012) with a per-theater average of $47,800, while The Avengers (2012) averaged $47,700 across more than 4,200 locations. It also became the biggest IMAX 3-D opening with $44 million, beating Iron Man 3 (2013) ($29 million).

While "Jurassic Park IV" was still in development, Laura Dern was the only confirmed cast member and remained attached to the project from 2007 until the plans were cancelled.
