The film's climax was originally written as a sword fight between Beatrix (wearing her wedding dress) and Bill on a moonlit beach. When the production ran long, Harvey Weinstein insisted that Quentin Tarantino cut the scene. All that remains is a brief reference by Bill to such a fight while sitting on Beatrix's couch, and the film's poster showing Beatrix in the dress holding her sword.

A character named Old Man Carrucan (played by Bruce Dern) appeared in Django Unchained (2012). The Django character is from the Carrucan plantation, a reference to this film and to Jasmine Yuen Carrucan.

When Elle reveals to Beatrix that she killed Pei-Mei, and Beatrix is about to engage Elle in a sword fight, Beatrix tells Elle, "You got no future." This is a reference to Red Sonja (1985), in which Red Sonja (Brigitte Nielsen) tells Brytag (Pat Roach), "I know my future. You have none."
