Kuzgun Acar was born in Istanbul on 28 February 1928; although his family wanted to name him 'Çetin', he became known by the name 'Kuzgun'. After his parents separated, he spent a poor childhood with his mother.

He began his art education in 1949 in the sculpture department of the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts, where he became a student of Rudolf Belling; he then moved to the studio of Ali Hadi Bara and Zühtü Müridoğlu. Under Bara's influence he turned toward abstract sculpture and graduated in 1953.

In 1956 he began using wire as a sculpture material; his figurative and abstract experiments made from wire he bent and twisted were exhibited that same year at the Venice Biennale. In 1957 he exhibited wire nebulous sculptures for the first time.

A work he made with nails won the City of Paris First Prize at the International Biennale of Young Artists in Paris in 1961. Taking one of the scholarships awarded with this prize, he went to France.

In Paris he opened an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1962; one work and two drawings from the exhibition were purchased by the museum. That same year he worked in a studio allocated to him in the Bois de Boulogne.

During his time in Paris he became interested in cinema and turned to making puppets for animated films. In 1966 he joined the 'Sinema Tanık' collective and shot documentary films that he never completed.

Between 1966 and 1967 he went through an intense period of sculpture production; his 'Kuşlar' sculpture at the Istanbul Manifaturacılar Çarşısı and the bronze relief 'Türkiye' he made for the facade of the Emekli Sandığı General Directorate on Ankara Kızılay Square are among the important works of this period.

The large-scale metal 'Türkiye' sculpture he placed at the front entrance of the Emek İş Hanı in Ankara in 1966 was removed from its location; research revealed that after being kept in storage it was sold as scrap.

In 1975, at Mehmet Ulusoy's invitation, he went to Paris and produced masks for Ulusoy's staging of The Caucasian Chalk Circle. These 140 masks, made from old steel and rubber materials left over from the war, are counted among the artist's important works.

Acar fell from a ladder while working on a wall relief and died of a cerebral hemorrhage on 4 February 1976 at the age of 48; he was buried in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.
