The film is set during a sanitation workers' strike that called for large amounts of uncollected garbage to be prominently shown in exterior scenes. But because New York City's actual sanitation department was on the job, they were inadvertently collecting the trash that was supposed to be part of the film's production design.

The "Ontological Argument" is an argument that moves from the idea of God to the reality of God. It was first explicitly formulated by St. Anselm in his Proslogion (1077-78); a later famous version was given by René Descartes. Anselm began with the concept of a God than whom nothing greater can be conceived. To think that such a being exists only in thought and not in reality involves a contradiction, because a being lacking real existence is not a being than whom nothing greater can be conceived. A still greater being would be one possessing the further quality of existence. Therefore a supremely perfect being must exist; otherwise it would not be supremely perfect. This is one of the most debated and discussed arguments in the history of thought.
