Lovelace claimed that Deep Throat (1972) earned $600 million in ticket revenue. In his review of Inside Deep Throat (2005), Roger Ebert wrote: "In the days before video, the mob owned most of the porno theaters and inflated the box office as a way of laundering drug and prostitution money, so it's likely that 'Deep Throat' didn't really gross $600 million, but that may be the box-office tally."

In a 2013 interview with Allure magazine to promote the film, Amanda Seyfried, then 27, discussed the nude scenes and admitted she had mixed feelings about her breasts and was not always happy with their size. She said: "A few days ago I saw a photo of myself at 19 and my breasts were so much bigger. They were D's, and now they're a small C because I lost weight. There was something so nice about the size. Looking back I said, 'Why did I always give myself such a hard time?' No one but me ever said anything to me about it."
