Queenpins is based on the true story of three women: Robin Ramirez, Marilyn Johnson and Amiko "Amy" Fountain. The details first emerged after a Tuesday morning raid by the Phoenix, Arizona Police Department in July 2012. Among the items seized were $25,000,000 worth of counterfeit coupons, 22 assault weapons and 21 vehicles, including a 40-foot boat. In February 2013 all three women pleaded guilty. Fountain and Johnson each pleaded guilty to one count of forgery. Ramirez pleaded guilty to forgery, fraud and illegal control of an enterprise. Ramirez was sentenced to 24 months in prison and seven years of supervised release. They were also ordered to pay Proctor & Gamble more than $1.2 million.

At the fertility clinic, while advising Connie (Kristen Bell) about anonymous sperm donors, a woman mentions how a very popular man made more than 400 donations. This is likely an inside joke referencing actor Vince Vaughn's role in Delivery Man (2013). In Delivery Man, Vaughn's character David Wozniak was a prolific sperm donor and the father of 533 children, 142 of whom filed a joint class-action lawsuit to force the fertility clinic to reveal his identity.
