    There was a shelved "Sarfarosh" film (1979/1980/1981) starring Amitabh Bachchan (in a triple role), Anita Raj (replacing Parveen Babi), Utttam Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Ranjeeta Kaur (replacing Bindiya Goswami), Shakti Kapoor, Mukri Pran and Kader Khan. It was written by K. K. Shukla, produced by Subash Desai and directed by Manmohan Desai. The film was shelved due to many problems in the script. In 1984 it was restarted with Amitabh and Anita Raj. John liked the script but told Supran Verma that they needed a strong villain. Suparn Verma could not get the scriptwriting on the right track.
