After not being asked back for Scary Movie 5 (2013), Anna Faris initially believed her time in the Scary Movie franchise was over. For years she was unsure of where she stood with the Wayans brothers. In 2026, Faris revealed that Wayans had called her in 2002 and advised her not to appear in the third film because the franchise had been taken from them, but she was under contract. After that conversation, they did not speak again until 2025 (the week after Faris lost her home in the Los Angeles wildfires), when the Wayans brothers regained the franchise rights and invited her to return. Faris has since described making the sixth installment as a "therapeutic" experience.

Marlon Wayans explained why original Scary Movie (2000) star Shannon Elizabeth is not in the sixth installment of the franchise. According to Wayans, it "wasn't personal"; the decision came down to the film already having a large returning cast and simply how many characters they could bring back.
