On the back of the truck carrying the gnomes, the moving van from the opening is labeled "Sherrinford Movers." Before Sir Arthur Conan Doyle changed his mind, Sherrinford was the original name of Sherlock Holmes. The name became the institution in the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) series Sherlock (2010) that houses Holmes's sister Eurus.

Sherlock Gnomes was released by Paramount Pictures, which two years later would acquire a 49% stake in Miramax Films, the company that would first release its predecessor Gnomeo & Juliet (2011) before The Walt Disney Company sold Miramax to Filmyard Holdings. Disney would later distribute Gnomeo & Juliet under the Touchstone Pictures banner.
