Psychologist Chris French wrote in The Guardian: "The reason I found the film so 'disturbing' was that it demonstrated that, however obvious a hoax may be to those capable of critical thinking, there will always be many people who take the claim that the film is based on real events at face value." None of these events actually happened, none of the "archival footage" was real, and an article in Overland states that Dr. Abigail Taylor never existed.

Nome, Alaska, is no stranger to disappearances, but after investigating two dozen disappearance cases, the FBI found no evidence of alien activity. The Bureau concluded that the town's harsh climate and alcohol consumption were the most likely causes of the missing-person reports. Most publications therefore concluded that Dr. Abigail Tyler is a fictional character. In the film, Dr. Abigail Tyler suffers a neck injury that paralyzes her and confines her to a wheelchair. In the end, Dr. Tyler leaves Alaska for the East Coast to spend her days under hospice care.
