Instead of a prequel showing how Frank Martin first became the Transporter, the film is a reboot that retells the Transporter story and ignores the original trilogy starring Jason Statham as if it had never happened.

The parking garage scene in which Frank Martin is first introduced is a homage to the parking garage scene in The Transporter 2, where Jason Statham's Frank Martin single-handedly takes out a gang of thieves after a scantily clad girl who also works with the gang demands at gunpoint that he get out of the car.

Frank drives an Audi S8 that went on sale in spring 2012 (and was facelifted in November 2013), so chronologically speaking the car of choice makes no sense. It also appears to drift a great deal for a car equipped only with the quattro all-wheel-drive system. Jason Statham drove a BMW 7 Series (E38) in the first Transporter film and an Audi A8 W12 in the other two sequels.

Although this film is a remake of the trilogy starring Jason Statham, its plot is very similar to The Transporter (2002), in which Frank Martin is targeted because of the "packages" (strong female figures) he is trapped by and ultimately chooses to do the right thing by bringing down a human trafficking/smuggling ring. Both films end with Martin about to be killed by the villain on a cliff before being saved by the female lead.

The fight scene in the Full Moon nightclub's maintenance room pays homage to the fight scene in The Transporter 2 in which Jason Statham's Frank Martin uses a fire hose to fight Gianni's men in his mansion. In this film, however, Ed Skrein's Frank Martin uses the power cord of a Dyson vacuum cleaner hanging in the maintenance room's cage instead of a fire hose.

Inspector Tarconi does not appear in this film.
- #013
In the film, Anna forces Frank to catch human traffickers. In the original film, Frank stands up to slave traders illegally smuggling people from China to France.
