The film uses archival recordings of William Hanna performing all the original screams, yells, gasps, howls and shrieks heard in the original Tom and Jerry cartoons from 1940 to 1958. This is the same technique previously used in The Peanuts Movie (2015), where Bill Melendez's recordings from the original cartoons made between 1965 and 2006 (including films, series and TV specials) were used.

Terrence tells Kayla that the Royal Gate Hotel was built in 1930, the year William Hanna began his animation career working on his first Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes cartoons for Warner Brothers. Terrence also says the hotel moved to New York in 1962, the year the last Tom and Jerry cartoons made by Gene Deitch came to an end.

When Spike gets excited to go for a walk, he says he's ready, just as the title character of the same name does in SpongeBob SquarePants (1999). Bobby Cannavale, who voices Spike, had previously played Tony the Sea Turtle in the SpongeBob episode Shell Games, which aired three years before this film's release.
