Writer John Whittington had always imagined a Tom Hanks-like actor to play Noah and settled on Adam DeVine early on. Surprisingly, Adam kept his passion for the film and fought hard to get it made. John ultimately placed great trust in Adam during the film's development and stated that without him the film would have had very little chance of being made.
