The film's announcement came in the form of a fashion show in which Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson walked the runway as their characters Derek and Hansel.

Zoolander 2 marked the end of Stiller's long-running tradition of beginning his directing work by gathering his cast and crew and stomping on a glass bottle for good luck, a nod to Jewish wedding custom. When Stiller stomped on the glass bottle with the Zoolander 2 team, he punctured the sole of his shoe and cut his heel. Stiller called it "a harbinger of things to come for that movie."
