Smash Mouth's "Days Like These," which accompanies the film's epilogue montage, had never been officially released outside the film at the time of its theatrical run. Some time after the film's release, however, someone leaked lead vocalist Steve Harwell's lead vocal track for the song online and it was uploaded to YouTube: first in 2009 as a Microsoft Songsmith remix with bluegrass accompaniment, then in 2012 with no instrumental backing at all. It was not until 2020 that the song was finally officially released with its original instrumentation.

In June 2005, before Zoom went into production, Twentieth Century Fox and Marvel Enterprises sued Sony and Revolution Studios, claiming that this film's draft was confusingly similar to X-Men (2000) and that the picture was planned to open two weeks before X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) in order to draw parallels. Revolution had moved Zoom's release date from 13 May 2006 to early August 2006. The move was initiated by Warner Bros. Poseidon (2006), whose premiere date was moved from 5 May 2006 to 13 May 2006, the original Zoom date. Sony and Revolution made some minor changes to the script in direct response to the lawsuit. For example, a character's name was changed and the location of the film's research laboratory was moved. Fox and Marvel sought monetary damages in their suit but apparently withdrew the case two months later without seeking damages.
