In a 2017 Tribeca Film Festival conversation with comedian Gilbert Gottfried, Barry Levinson said he took his first step into show business in 1968. That year he reluctantly accompanied his friend George to an acting class, but once the class began to interest him, George's enthusiasm faded. Levinson moved away to be closer to the film and television industry, and the two lost touch. Years later, while watching the 2001 film Blow, Levinson learned what had become of George, and he calls that chance encounter one of the turning points of his life.
