Dharmendra had a large farm in Yuba City, and Jyot was to visit India and live with her uncle Amrik S. Bassi, who had a house in Ludhiana and originally lived in California. Her nephew Bobby Grewal came from California to visit his uncle for a month and, during this visit, became involved with Jyot, which ended with Bobby Grewal and Bobby Deol getting into a bloody fight over Jyot. During her stay in India, Jyot was involved in a cruel incident: a few days before a beauty pageant, she attacked local beauty queen Amrit Thandi with a metal pipe, and Amrit would undergo several surgeries to repair her face. Jyot's uncle decided he had had enough and sent her back to the United States, and Deol later refused the arrangement after hearing many stories about her, including theft, several other broken engagements, gang-related activities, drugs and more.

In 1999 director Thampi Kananthanam announced a film titled Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hain with Arvind Swamy and Urmila. When Arvind left the film, Bobby Deol was signed. The film had a mahurat, but it went no further. Late Vashu Bhagnani took the title and remade Tholi Prema as Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hain with Tusshar and Kareena Kapoor.

In 1998, after R Mohan cancelled the 50-day US schedule of his film Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai, Sunny Deol finally decided he would not make his brother Bobby's film. The film, which had already been shooting for 22 days, was to restart with Arvind Swamy replacing Bobby. The rest of the cast (Urmila and Deepak Tijori) and the director (Thampi) were to remain. To make up for the heavy loss caused by the 22 days of shooting and the planning of the long outdoor schedule, the film was to be shot in neighbouring Nepal instead of the US as originally planned. The film was ultimately shelved. This film has no connection whatsoever with Tusshar Kapoor's film of the same name.
