In a 2019 interview for the 35th anniversary of Polis Akademisi (1984), his widow Kathryn explained that although she had since thrown away some of the franchise props that belonged to her late husband, she had actually kept all the aprons and props he used in that film from Sam's Butcher Shop because he was a fan of The Brady Bunch (1969).

According to his widow Kathryn, after David's funeral and burial took place in Ohio in April 2001 and the family returned to their home in Los Angeles, Kathryn held a celebration of life for David at the house together with many family friends and co-stars who had worked with him over the years. During the party she was surprised that paparazzi surrounded her house, taking photographs and asking questions about David's death, because David was known as a character actor, not a huge leading man whom paparazzi usually tracked.
