Farrah Fawcett was one of the original Charlie's Angels. She left Charlie's Angels (1976) after only one season, which resulted in a lawsuit. Cheryl Ladd, who played her sister, replaced her. The lawsuit, however, ended in an agreement under which Fawcett agreed to appear as a guest, meaning she had to act alongside her replacement. Ladd said that, despite the awkwardness, Fawcett was very professional toward her.

Farrah Fawcett and Kate Jackson had not officially met until both were cast in Charlie's Angels (1976); Jackson said that when Fawcett first came to Hollywood, she had seen her at a party and thought that if all the girls were as beautiful as her, she would have no chance and might as well go home to Alabama. Jaclyn Smith and Farrah had previously worked together on a Max Factor commercial and had liked each other. Kate met Jaclyn at auditions for another show, and a friendship developed between them. It was Charlie's Angels, however, that brought the three of them together in the same room for the first time, and they became close friends, a friendship that lasted until Farrah's death. After her death, both Kate and Jaclyn kept Farrah's legacy alive.

On July 25, 1980, Farrah Fawcett had a rather strange opening night in Butterflies Are Free at the Burt Reynolds Dinner Theatre in Jupiter, Florida. During the performance, an obese woman sitting in the front rows of tables began hurling insults at her and making bird noises. The unidentified woman then lifted her dress and flashed the performers, which caused lead actor Dennis Christopher to notice, even though the character he was playing was a blind man. A male customer nearby began vomiting, and then another customer fainted. Incredibly, the reviews of Farrah's performance were positive.

To commemorate her, Mattel would officially release in 2011 a Black Label collector Barbie shaped to resemble her and posed permanently in the same pose as her iconic red swimsuit poster.

Farrah Fawcett had unusually large nipples, which boosted the popularity of her iconic poster. During her role on the television series Charlie's Angels (1976), however, ABC's Broadcast Standards Department (the censors) became very concerned about what they called "nipple protrusion" in some of her wardrobe.
