On the June 23, 2003 episode of WWE RAW, as part of a stipulation in his "mask vs. Belt" match against World Heavyweight Champion Triple H (Paul Levesque), he had to remove his mask and thus showed his "burnt" face to the world. His supposedly physical scars turned out to be only mental.

Even so, he could report to RAW every week to compete, but he was handcuffed and escorted to the ring by security personnel. Since SummerSlam, he has tried to go after the threats Shane McMahon eventually directed at him.
