At age 16, Hayley Mills was offered the lead role in Stanley Kubrick's Lolita (1962), but her parents opposed the offer, fearing the film's steamy subject matter would damage her wholesome image. The role went to Sue Lyon instead. In later years, Mills admitted she regretted not taking the part.
