Hulk Hogan was at one point close friends with fellow wrestler and former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura. Ventura ended the friendship in the 1990s after learning, in the course of his lawsuit against World Wrestling Entertainment owner Vince McMahon, that Hogan had told McMahon about Ventura's 1984 attempt to form a labor union and that McMahon had blocked it.

In one of the biggest slaps in the face of his career, Hogan was set to face Jeff Jarrett for the WCW Heavyweight title. Hogan was supposed to win the championship; however, Vince Russo (then head booker) decided to have Jarrett lie down, let Hogan win and then send Hogan home. Russo created another championship and continued without Hogan. Hogan was never seen in WCW again. He still holds the belt.
