Lindsay Wagner was a contract player at Universal and was earning $1,000 a week when she guest-starred as Jaime Sommers in an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man (1974). Her character died at the end of the two-part episode, and Universal did not renew her contract because it believed the character had no further use. But the public reaction was so immediate and intense that Universal had to bring Jaime Sommers back from the dead. Wagner and her manager negotiated a substantial raise to $25,000 per episode for another two-part episode of The Six Million Dollar Man (1974). That led to her own series, The Bionic Woman (1976), for which she commanded $500,000 a year; a guarantee of five feature films; plus 12½% of the royalties from all Bionic Woman works.
