Maria Olivera in the series' ninth season (2001-02), a newly promoted officer who had been sidelined at another precinct by sexist, racist and stupid male superiors and would join the 15th Precinct after influencing them on a case. However, after Marcil filmed her first episode (aired in November 2001 as the second part of the two-part season premiere), the producers and cast agreed the episode did not work, and because Marcil was pregnant at the time they dropped the storyline in favor of introducing another young Latina detective (played by Jacqueline Obradors) in a later episode. Marcil returned as Det. Olivera for one episode in Season 11, but the character did not interact with any of the regular characters and never returned afterward.
