In 2007, Wentworth Miller gave an interview to the German edition of InStyle Magazine, and the interviewer asked him whether rumors that he was gay were true. Miller replied: "I'm not gay but this rumor cannot be dispelled. I would like to have a girlfriend and a family. But I haven't met the right one yet. Until then I'm focusing on my work. I waited so long for this chance (the lead role in "Prison Break") that I enjoy every second on set, even if it means shooting 14 hours a day." In 2013, however, Miller published an open letter to the organizers of a Russian film festival he had been invited to; the letter was a refusal, citing the anti-gay law recently passed in Russia and the rise in homophobic violence there. In his letter he wrote in part: "... it would make me happy to say yes. However, as a gay man I must decline. I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly."
