Colonel Flagg and Radar O'Reilly were the only characters from the film M*A*S*H (1972) to appear as guest roles in the series. Plans were made in the second season for Alan Alda and other actors from the original series to appear, but the plans were cancelled before they were finalized.

After MASH was created specifically for Harry Morgan, Jamie Farr and William Christopher, all of whom had expressed a desire for the series to continue when M*A*S*H (1972) was cancelled.

The opposite happened: AfterMASH's ratings fell to the bottom of the television rankings and nine episodes of its second season were cancelled, while The A-Team ran until 1987 with 97 episodes.
