Every episode title in the first season is a quotation from Charlotte Brontë's 1847 novel 'Jane Eyre'. The episode titles of the second season are taken from quotations in George Eliot's 1871 novel "Middlemarch". Similarly, each episode title of the third season is a quotation from Mary Shelley's 1818 novel "Frankenstein".

Despite its success and strong ratings, the series was cancelled after Season 3 due to a split between Netflix and CBC. Since its cancellation, fans launched a Twitter campaign to persuade Netflix to renew it, using the #RenewAnnewithanE hashtag more than a million times. The producers tried to develop a fourth season with another channel or make a film to complete the story, but unfortunately they were unable to do so.

Canadian fans criticized the US promotional poster featuring a retouched version of Amybeth McNulty. The image had brighter eyes and teeth, fewer freckles, slightly altered hair, and the shadows under her eyes removed. Caitlin Cronenberg, the photographer who captured the original portrait, expressed her surprise on Facebook, saying, "As the person who took this photo, I was quite surprised to see this. Doing anything to the magnificent and captivating Amybeth is completely unnecessary."
