It followed members of a team of astronauts preparing to become the first humans to visit Mars and their relationships with their families. It ran for eight episodes showing the team's training and preparation, but unlike Away, which shows its astronauts launching toward Mars in the first episode, The First took place entirely on Earth until its launch in the final episode. Hulu later cancelled the series.
