Julian McMahon, who played the lead role of Jess LaCroix in the series' first three seasons, announced in January 2022 that he would leave the show after creative differences with showrunner and executive producer David Hudgins. Creator Dick Wolf commented: "We were saddened to see Julian leave. His role as Agent Jess LaCroix was a key factor in the success of FBI: Most Wanted. We will miss him and wish him the best in his next chapter." It was decided that his character would be killed in the line of duty while searching for Harley Ross, a stalker and addict who wanted to find and kill his ex-girlfriend Lucy Carver. Jess LaCroix was replaced by a new character, Remy Scott, played by Dylan McDermott. With his departure, the actors Jen Landon (Jess's girlfriend Sarah Allen), Terry O'Quinn (Jess's father Byron LaCroix) and YaYa Gosselin (Jess's daughter Natalia 'Tali' Skye LaCroix) also left the series.
