The bear used in the series is a real 27-year-old Kodiak bear (native to Alaska) named Ursula. It has appeared in numerous television and film productions.

Taylor Thorne (Taylor West) worked and rehearsed most with the penguins, which are allowed to work a maximum of six hours a day. Although the penguins are incredibly cute, working with them proved very difficult because of the challenge of training them to carry out written tasks.
