Cleavant Derricks's identical twin brother, Clinton Derricks-Carroll, played the second personality of the character Rembrandt in the episodes The King Is Back (1995), Greatfellas (1996) and The Prince of Slides (1996). In the last two matches they played together, more makeup was used in a way that made it nearly impossible for any viewer to tell them apart. Both times, Cleavant and Clinton actually switched roles in the final scenes, and nobody realized that it was Clinton playing Rembrandt sliding with the other main characters.

The device used to activate the wormholes to enable sliding is a MicroTAC, an old, modified Motorola cell phone. In the third season, the new device acquired for sliding turned out to be an ordinary television remote control. In "Exodus" Parts I and II, the device used to slide was a modified Sega Genesis controller.

While the fifth season was in production, the producers suspected that the Sci Fi Channel had lost interest in the series because they received no correction notes on the scripts. For this reason, writer and executive producer Bill Dial decided to test the channel's rule against pointing a gun at a character's head. He submitted a script featuring a character being shot in the head. It was ignored.

Although production of the series continued without a break between the third and fourth seasons, it was cancelled by FOX and picked up by the Sci-Fi Channel (now Syfy), causing a one-year hiatus in broadcasting and resulting in the broadcast years (1995-1997, 1998-2000). Because the series was revived by the Sci-Fi Channel after being cancelled by FOX, there was a visible drop in the quality of the visual effects in the fourth season, which left the series overall with a lower production budget.

The original timer occasionally displays the words "GEnSEr" and "CAluri" on screen, for example when it is started or when a malfunction occurs. This is an Easter egg placed by timer prop designers Steve Genser and Mike Caluori. The people working on the series did not notice it until the second season.

On the Roku Channel, the order of episodes 4, Summer of Love, and 5, Prince of Wails, is reversed. Prince of Wails runs first, so at the beginning of the episode you see Rembrandt dressed as a hippie. The episode numbers are also one higher because the pilot was split into two episodes.

The Mallory brothers are named Colin and Quinn; Kari Wuhrer appeared alongside Colin Quinn in Remote Control (1987). It is unclear whether this is a joke or entirely a coincidence.
