The series' ratings declined in its fourth year, but the news that it was cancelled in March 2018 was still something of a surprise. The Librarians has a very dedicated fan base that made the series trend on Twitter, and its ratings were still good for a cable series. However, the TNT network was going through a rebranding period and apparently decided the old show did not fit its new look (this also led The Last Ship into its fifth and ultimately final season). Producer Dean Devlin said he would shop the series to other outlets and called on fans to show support on social networks. His efforts failed and the series went out of production, with all its props sold at auction.
