One of the series' lead cast members was a particularly fitting choice for the role of Donnie Thornberry. Flea, also known as Michael Peter Balzary, suited the character well because Donnie is generally based on how Flea got his nickname. As a child Flea could not sit still, and the nickname has stuck with him ever since. Who better to play such a wild and hyperactive character than someone who was his own family's "Donnie"?
