To preserve the series' period authenticity, nude scenes required the actors to have pubic hair, since shaving pubic hair was not a common practice in the 1970s. Unfortunately, because fashion standards had changed by the time the series was shot, no actors with unshaved pubic hair could be found. The actors were therefore filmed using "merkins," pubic-area wigs.
