Dekalog - Kieslowski's Most Valuable Legacy and the Work That Received Stanley Kubrick's Praise

Dekalog contains pessimism, melancholy, depressiveness within it. This comes about through the sprinkling of the painful emotions inside Kieslowski himself, the series' screenwriter and director, into the series. If a writer is generally a very depressive person, you see depressiveness in his books. If a director is very cheerful, you can see the more humorous side of the work. Kieslowski, on the other hand, is a drama director and writer in both cinema and TV.

Stanley Kubrick spoke of this series with praise. I suppose the number of series, films and books he has praised doesn't exceed the fingers of one hand. Stanley Kubrick said the following:

"I have always been reluctant to dwell on a certain aspect of the works of great filmmakers because there is the inevitable possibility that this will simplify and reduce the work. But in this book containing the screenplays of Kieslowski and his co-writer Piesiewicz, it would not be out of place to observe that they have a very rare talent for dramatizing ideas rather than merely mentioning them. By telling what they mean through dramatic action, they also have the gain of allowing the audience to discover things that happen beyond what is told. They do this with such an admirable talent that you cannot notice the emergence of the ideas, and only much later can you understand how deeply they have penetrated your heart."

One scene of one episode was so dramatic that, while reading something about this episode, I saw someone say that they too had been similarly very upset with me, that "it felt like an ox had sat inside them."

Dekalog does not allow for an intense analysis of itself. That is why this Dekalog may be the first and only one in the world in this regard. The analyses made about this series cannot go beyond a summary. I noticed this.

In conclusion, Dekalog is the series that carries none, or the least, of that invisible shallowness that TV series contain within them. It contains even less shallowness than Breaking Bad, which I consider the best TV series. It is hardly possible to see this shallowness in cinema. Even if there are shallow films, for example a beautiful film does not contain the shallowness peculiar to TV series.

Dekalog.

Kieslowski's best signature on the world.
