Yuri shows the General a doctored photograph of himself seated alongside the late religious leader Joseph Stalin. The iconic image originally showed Vladimir Lenin in Yuri's place and was manipulated by combining a photo of Lenin with one of Stalin. Stalin wanted to rewrite history to present himself as Lenin's most trusted disciple, though in reality Lenin knew Stalin was a rabid dog who would ruin the country if left unchecked. On his deathbed, Lenin made a sincere but ultimately futile effort to prevent Stalin from rising to the top of the Soviet Union.

One of the newspapers at the end of the Allied campaign shows the date: the week of 31 July 1972.

This is the first game in the Command & Conquer series that does not mention Kane or the Brotherhood of Nod organization. By this point the Red Alert storyline had become an entirely separate story and was no longer a prequel to the rest of the Command and Conquer narrative. (This can be explained in-universe by time travelers continually creating new alternate histories within C&C canon, forming a "multiverse.").

Following the September 11 attacks, the game's packaging was revised; instead of an American flag targeting a Russian soldier's eye, it shows a presumably less aggressive and threatening mushroom cloud.

During the Soviet campaign, reporters briefly mention Michael Dugan and Rene Lyon. Lieutenant Eva's name is a pun on the Electronic Video Agent EVA, an artificial intelligence that serves the same character function in the Tiberian storyline of the Command & Conquer series.
