That unforgettable line at the 41st minute of the film, "I love you 3000," was inspired by a phrase Robert Downey Jr. heard from his own child. As soon as directors the Russo brothers heard this heartfelt expression, they decided to add it to the film.

A vision scene was shot in which Tony, after snapping his fingers, sees his grown-up daughter Morgan (Katherine Langford). Thor in Ragnarok created a problem for the writers: 'Are you making him stupid?' they asked Taika Waititi. But Ragnarok was actually the most tragic film for Thor; he lost his kingdom, his father, his sister and his eye. The writers used that loss to create a depressed Thor.
Why is it not a problem for Smart Hulk to tell the Ancient One about the future? Because this is a different set of rules. The Ancient One will have died during those events, while Tony is right in the middle of them. If Tony had known he would die, he might have backed out and ruined the one-in-14-million chance.
Natasha's death is permanent. The sacrifice for the Soul Stone cannot be undone. Clint dying would have been too melodramatic; Natasha reckoning with her past was more natural.
The writers say they didn't choose the major deaths at random. There was no restriction other than Thanos's order to 'wipe out humans.' They could have brought in the Guardians, because Thanos's two stepdaughters were on that ship.
There was concept art for a Hulk-Thanos rematch, but it wasn't used. Smart Hulk was a different character and what motivated him wasn't revenge. They had also planned to introduce Smart Hulk in Infinity War, but the tone was wrong.
Thanos had another cut battle: with giant creatures on an alien world. This would have shown that Thanos was invincible even without the Stones. The cut creatures appear in the background of 2014 Gamora and Nebula.
Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet was one of the titles considered for the fourth film, but they ultimately settled on Endgame.
The film was initially referred to as 'Avengers: Infinity War – Part II,' while the first film was 'Part I.' However, as the stories became independent of each other, Marvel changed the names. The Avengers considered time-traveling to 2988 B.C., the opening scene of 'Thor: The Dark World,' to get the Reality Stone.
This is the first film to be re-released in theaters with an extended version before its DVD and Blu-Ray release. Marvel chief producer Kevin Feige chose this strategy to surpass 'Avatar.'
Josh Brolin, who plays Thanos, has less screen time in 'Endgame' than in 'Infinity War.' McFeely said, 'We had to put the villain somewhat in the background. In the first half of the film, no one is saying, I wish there were a bad guy. You're dealing with loss and a time heist.' This allowed for the time jump and for the characters to live with the consequences of the Snap.
It was decided that Hulk should suffer permanent damage when he puts on Stark's gauntlet. Joe Russo said, 'Thanos beating Hulk shows how powerful he is. Putting on the gauntlet is incredibly painful and causes permanent damage even to the strongest beings.' Head of visual development Ryan Meinerding described the idea of Hulk's arm being charred and shrinking: 'Initially the arm was shriveled and in bad shape, but it was thought to look strange. In the end they solved it without that concept in the film.'
As of July 21, 2019, 'Avengers: Endgame' became the highest-grossing film of all time, not adjusted for inflation, surpassing 'Avatar.' On March 13, 2021, 'Avatar' reclaimed the title of highest-grossing film, but Endgame is still in second place.
In the deleted 'Tony at the Way Station' scene, Tony, after his fatal wounds, tells his daughter Morgan, 'I may have made a bad decision.' Morgan says, 'It will be hard to let you go, but if someone has to do it... I'm proud of you. I'm strong, like Mom. And I'm happy.' Joe Russo said the scene was cut because it stopped the film and broke the momentum. He also noted that viewers could not form an emotional connection because they were familiar with Morgan's younger version.
Mark Ruffalo explained that the merging of Bruce Banner and Hulk was planned since 'Age of Ultron' and ended in Endgame. 'I played three characters. Banner and Hulk reconciling was the final chapter of their relationship,' he said.
The first timeline break in 'Endgame' concerns the Space Stone in 2012. Tony and Scott plan to give 2012 Tony an arc reactor malfunction, but Hulk messes things up and Loki takes the Stone and escapes. This is an unresolved break in the Marvel timeline. Loki escapes from the Battle of New York, and this could affect the events of 'Thor: The Dark World' and 'Thor: Ragnarok.' Joe Russo explained the Ancient One's motivations: 'Strange giving up the stone willingly had a purpose, and perhaps it was for this moment. One of the reasons for the five-year time jump was 'to bring the characters closer to being fully realized people.'
In the earliest drafts, Carol Danvers was at the center of the story, but her role was greatly reduced due to Brie Larson's scheduling conflict with the 'Captain Marvel' shoot.
The reason Natasha does not get a funeral in 'Endgame' is that viewers will see her again in the solo 'Black Widow' film. Joe Russo implied that the funeral took place off-screen and could be shown in a future MCU film.
The Russo Brothers wrote a scene in which 2014 Thanos goes to 2012 and beheads 2012 Captain America. Kevin Feige wanted the scene removed due to its violent content and potential R rating; it was also thought that the film was already dark enough.
In concept art in the book 'Avengers: Endgame - The Art of the Movie,' Nakia is also seen taking part in the final battle. This popular character from 'Black Panther' would have been expected to be in the battle, but she did not appear in the film.

Brie Larson wore the original Captain Marvel costume on the set of Avengers: Endgame but appeared in a different costume in the film because Marvel Studios changed its plans. The studio first announced its plans to bring Carol Danvers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2014. At one point she was considered for a cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but the plans settled on her making her MCU debut in the solo Captain Marvel film. Thanks to some changes in the Phase 3 release schedule, Captain Marvel was released just a few months before Carol appeared in Avengers: Endgame. In her origin film, Carol switched to her usual red, blue and gold costume at the end of the film, but she did not appear that way in the team-up film. When Carol returned to Earth decades later, she had changed her costume, and she changed it once more during the five years after the Snap. However, set photos from Avengers: Endgame show Larson still wearing Captain Marvel's original costume, because it turned out that this costume was designed for this film. In The Art of Avengers: Endgame book, Visual Development Director Andy Park confirmed that Captain Marvel's "original" costume was in fact designed for Avengers: Endgame. He had planned for the costume to appear in both films, but it was later decided that it would make more sense for Carol to have changed her appearance at some point during the thirty years since viewers last saw her, which gave Park the opportunity to create alternative looks such as Ms. Marvel's traditional sash. Park said, "The way it worked was: I designed her look in Endgame for the Russo brothers first, because she was originally in Endgame before her solo film. It was a very strange situation that I hadn't experienced in all my years doing this; you design a character for one director and immediately know that the character will have a solo film with a different director. So she was in Endgame with the solo film costume, and then it was decided that they wanted a new costume for Endgame, because why would she wear the same costume decades later? That's when they approached me to explore new looks. The options ranged from weathering her existing look as if it had been through years of adventures, to keeping the same costume and maybe making small additions like a sash, then taking the design further, separating the colors, changing it a bit and adding a little more blue."

According to the Official Charts Company, Endgame was downloaded 335,400 times between 19 and 27 August. The Freddie Mercury biopic had achieved 265,000 downloads in the same period in February. Infinity War was reported to have been downloaded 253,000 times. Hellboy, in which Stranger Things star David Harbour took over from Ron Perlman, is currently second on the list, with Shazam! third, Disney's live-action adaptation Dumbo fourth and the spy thriller Red Joan fifth. Interestingly, Avengers: Endgame is now the only Marvel production in the top five on the list; Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson, fell to sixth place.

Joe Russo explained why they abandoned this approach: "A lot of the reshoots and energy in Marvel films go toward solving the story problems we discover in extensive test screenings, the things people don't understand, or toward these massive third-act battles. For the 2014 version of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, a more epic introduction was initially planned. Before Avengers: Endgame, audiences were wondering how the Avengers would defeat Thanos after Avengers: Infinity War. The time travel theories proved correct, but no one predicted that Thanos would die just 15 minutes into the film. Thanos's death became the catalyst for the five-year time jump in which most of Avengers: Endgame takes place. It also allowed the remaining heroes to rightfully take center stage. However, Thanos returned to the film's plot through time travel; a version of him from 2014 learned what the Avengers were trying to do. This version, referred to internally at Marvel as "Warrior Thanos," repeatedly demonstrated what a massive threat he was, but an alternative introduction could have made this even clearer. The Art of Avengers: Endgame contains several concept drawings for aliens planned to appear in a major battle sequence with 2014 Thanos. Concept Illustrator Josh Nizzi explained the idea: "Marvel wanted to show how powerful Thanos was before he ever had any Stones. There was going to be a big battle sequence where he fought a military alien race. The aliens actually appeared in the film but only for a few seconds, before being killed by Gamora and Nebula." Instead of this introduction, Thanos's conquests and destructive combat prowess are only implied in his first appearance in Avengers: Endgame. In the film, he is seen teleporting in with his armor and double-bladed sword splattered with blood. When he arrives, he wipes off most of the blood, leaving fans to wonder what he has done. However, this reveals that directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely planned to show it at some point. Along with this potential battle, it appears that Avengers: Endgame would have included much more 2014 Thanos action. This new sequence would have launched his role, but they also shot another version in which Thanos and his army attack Vormir, leading to Black Widow's death. They even considered having 2014 Thanos kill the Avengers in his own timeline to taunt the main heroes, so it is possible that this attack was also included. As for the alien designs, there is one potentially noteworthy direction. The second aliens have an appearance and structure similar to Miek. We do not know whether this is Miek's alien race, but Miek proved to be a skilled warrior, so it could make sense for him to have a military background. If so, this could potentially be Thanos conquering Miek's planet.
Avengers: Endgame is the second MCU film after The Incredible Hulk to not have a post-credits scene.

Adjusted for inflation, it is the third film to gross $1 billion domestically in the 21st century; the previous ones are Avatar and Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.
It is the highest-grossing film on the Top 250 list, surpassing Avengers: Infinity War.
At the time of its release, it held the title of the highest-grossing film in history and became the third film not nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture; the others are The Birth of a Nation and Jurassic Park. The first was more than a decade before the Academy Awards.
To coincide with the film's release, Marvel published the fourth Avengers Omnibus in 2019.
It became the highest-grossing foreign film in India, earning over $52 million; it surpassed Avengers: Infinity War, which was in second place. The film was released in more than five languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
It broke the record for the biggest opening weekend in history with $357 million domestically, surpassing Avengers: Infinity War's record by $100 million. It became the first film to gross over $300 million in its opening weekend and the third sequel to surpass its predecessor (after Jaws 2 and Batman Returns). It held the opening weekend record longer than any other film; the previous record belonged to The Lost World: Jurassic Park for four years and six months and was surpassed by Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
In its opening weekend, it earned more money than Iron Man's entire theatrical run.
Kenneth Johnson, producer of the TV series The Incredible Hulk, was the first person to suggest to Stan Lee that the Hulk should be red (he was not a fan of the comics), because red represented anger. When told that the Hulk was simply green, Johnson joked, "Is he the Jealous Hulk?" Johnson immediately realized he was wrong; yet by coincidence, the Red Hulk later came into existence.
