Forrest Gump actually stands apart from films that are really just big-scale beautiful women and handsome men in the lead, or films where brains are front and center. Being mentally slow doesn't mean you'll have a bad heart. In fact, it's like this: bad hearts sometimes come from high intelligence. The thing we call consciousness can lead to real evil if a person has no conscience. For example, in Breaking Bad, Walter White is a highly conscious and intelligent person, but as the seasons go on he runs into dilemmas about his conscience.
A bad heart meeting a vast consciousness produces great evil. Forrest Gump's intelligence, though, is an intelligence that has defeated evil here, an intelligence that holds no evil. An adventure that starts with a chocolate leads him to marriage with a beautiful woman and then makes him a father.
Forrest deserved it. Marrying a beautiful woman and becoming a father. But the real point here is being able to share love in a world where people constantly set all sorts of criteria about each other.

Besides being an interesting coincidence, it's the echo of a warm and sincere welcome. The two hearts' birthdays both falling on July 9 is a nice detail in this series. Because Forrest deserved both to love and to be loved. He also really loved potatoes. :)

The running scene was inspired by an actual event. In 1982, Louis Michael Figueroa, aged 16, ran from New Jersey to San Francisco for the American Cancer Society, unknowingly inspiring a line for Forrest Gump's famous run on the silver screen. "I just put one foot in front of the other," it goes. "When I get tired, I sleep. When I get hungry, I eat. When I have to go to the bathroom, I go."

A true story adapted into a film. A story and its version on the big screen. The line is also said by Forrest. But it turned out to be the kind of line a man with mental slowness like Forrest would say. He didn't even see the people behind him, he saw their support when he looked back. When he stopped and looked back, it was as if he'd said, "That's all from me." Forrest is one of the rare films that breaks Hollywood clichés. Because Hollywood is like the American Dream. And the inside of the American Dream is empty. Hollywood, behind that magnificent stance, harbors a completely empty swamp. Because in the world's art circles, things like drugs, alcohol, adultery and gambling are found in abundance. The red carpet can even make a person unrecognizable.

Among the elements deleted from the original draft of the screenplay was a more literal interpretation of characters' symbolism. Lt. Dan was to have a dark rain cloud hanging over his head, Jenny was to have angel's wings and Forrest would have an animated Curious George as a companion. Robert Zemeckis believes he was sent the screenplay because he had directed Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and knew how to combine live-action and animation. Knowing full well the headaches he went through on that film, Zemeckis agreed to direct the film on the condition that the above-mentioned elements were taken out of the film.

The film's directorial success is obvious, but there's a warm, sincere quality among the actors. Most films are the director's success, but Forrest Gump is also somewhat a screenwriter's success. In cinema the director comes first, fixes a script, cuts, adds, turns it into something different, and in the end something emerges. But in Forrest Gump there's also the beauty of the script. Because here there's a main idea beyond Hollywood clichés. And the screenwriter is the one who thought it up.

It was originally scripted and shot that young Jenny kills her father by releasing the tractor handbrake so it runs him down in the corn field. This element was removed as the filmmakers decided audiences wouldn't forgive Jenny for such a violent act, no matter how evil her father was. The deleted scene can be seen on the 25th anniversary blu-ray.

People can make mistakes in life; Forrest is mentally slow, and Jenny, as the more sensible one, could have done something wrong. If you ask me, that would have taken this film to a higher point. Life has some really beautiful encounters. Forrest and Jenny, potatoes and meatballs. :)

An ending to the movie that was filmed but ultimately cut out depicted Forrest Gump passing his mother's folksy wisdom on to his son Forrest Jr. (played by a young Haley Joel Osment) that "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get" while holding out a box of chocolates for his son. Forrest Jr. then pulls out a slip of paper from the box which shows the different flavors of each of the chocolates. The final shot held on Forrest as he looks straight at the camera, tilting his head as a single tear rolls down his cheek.

The director wrote a beautiful ending. This ending was really shot in a way that suits the film. This film can also be an inspiration for people like Forrest. Because what happened to him was good things, and the world is full of people who want to live them. But that world also has the greedy, and Forrest, rather than greed;

I think they gave the Jenny character to the right actress. Other actresses could have given good performances too, even better ones. But Jenny going from party to party and always staying friends with Forrest, and in the end seeing the beauty inside him, is why they married. For this theme, the Jenny character is an averagely written one, regardless of her actress, but that's where the beauty of it lies. By the way, I don't like people's carelessness with sex. Forrest wasn't like that.

Bill Murray, John Travolta, and Chevy Chase turned down the role of Forrest Gump. Travolta later admitted that passing on the role was a mistake. Bill Paxton was one of Robert Zemeckis' initial first choices for the titular role, but the studio demanded somebody with more star power. The novel's author, Winston Groom, had always envisioned John Goodman as Gump, who is a 300 lb man in the novel.

Chippewa Square, the setting for the famous bench scene, does not actually have any benches on the outside of the square that faces the street, only inside the square. The bench was placed there for that scene only by the production team.

It just looks like a bench, a place to sit. Somewhere people sit and catch their breath. But sometimes little things like that lead to big events and situations. Part of Forrest Gump's success is him sitting on that bench, setting the chocolates down beside him and carrying on with his story. But the actor who played the role really spoke with the tone and diction of a person with an actual intellectual disability. He adjusted his body language to match, too.

Robert Zemeckis asked actor Jeffrey Winner to toss his drink at Robin Wright's leg instead of her face while shooting the nightclub scene so they wouldn't have to redo her make-up between takes.

The actor asking for the alcohol to be poured on his leg instead of his face so it wouldn't ruin his makeup means the makeup takes two hours to do. Or there's a director who cares about continuity and wants the shoot to run without a break. But if that scene weren't there, if Robin Wright's character were a more innocent character, wouldn't it be better?
